Beckenham friendly

So with apologies in advance I won’t be able to mention every player in this report due to the fact Spooner only told me I’d be writing it half way through game 1!

Anyhow here goes...

You look like a rugby player, act like a rugby player and good things happen!

So a typical Sunday away saw the intrepid u12s venture to Beckenham for our first ever “proper” fixture. Rain, traffic and Tim’s Dad not having Adams Sons boots ready was in true Darts fashion ensuring we were nowhere near ready at the allotted time as a team. Anyhow the scrum “sausage and egg muffin burger” taken care of and the lads and coaches were sort of ready to go.

Our gracious hosts did not quite get the memo it was a fixture and we ended up with a mixed warm up and drills for a while.

After some slalom runs and a ducking drill coach Browny did immensely well not to laugh at the sides were spilt and we kicked off.

Game 1

A strong mixed darts side always had the upper hand here. Before KO a lot of money was placed on the away team. Surprisingly tho Beckenham hadn’t read the script and some good defence saw them hold us out for the first 5 mins. As they again cleared their lines a big lad put boot to ball and in a move he certainly didn’t learn from his dad Will Tarrant read the play perfectly, dropped to full back, caught with ease and smashed thru would be tacklers for fun. Held just short a lovely offload to a willing support player broke the deadlock.

This was the cue for the floodgates to open. I can’t name all the scorers and it was very good rugby throughout. We scored at will and sometimes even passed before the tackle!

A couple of other highlights were Jake trying the sort of offload SBW dreams of, Hudson being superbly coached to go blind when nobody was at home for a score. Jack being like a lad possessed and passing beautifully to get the boys going.

Huds also deserves a mention for superman rucking. Off your feet not even close to what he achieved flying 10 yards through the air to clear some poor soul out.

Notable mentions to Matt with some great hands, Joshua who played superbly but was well shackled, another day he woulda had 5 or 6, Rodders who tackled everything that moved. Lewis for making the hard yards and Precious George for getting the score he was denied through foul play a minute earlier - too many others to mention sorry.

Approx score Darts 15-0 b’s

Game 2

A slow start again saw B’s defend well but offer little in attack.

Our boys went narrow and smashed it up the middle enjoying success around the fringes.

After 4 mins in Toby Burke was the unluckiest kid on the pitch and should have had 3 tries, how the final flourish didn’t go his way was beyond me.

As the ever busy Josef Smiff crashed up yet again drawing 3 or 4 loads in his wake the space finally came for Albert to go on a many run freeing up Sarge for a run in, I say run in but he still had 2 to beat but in his world that’s a gimme...

The team then went through some lovely plays, the ball going wide early and some hands down the line that had the coaches purring.

The one time they looked in trouble Sam Cross went on a windy run and then put his head down to give his mates a lovely target to retain the ball - super stuff.

Again too many to mention but Albert had a stormer, Jonah and Sonny did the uglies superbly and a superb all round team show blew the beleaguered B’s away.

The after show

The lads looked the business and behaved superbly all day, something we coaches all noted. Gone was the whining of last week and encouragement and teamwork abounded. They were a credit to their parents and the club today on and off the pitch

The main attraction

The most important part of the day as you know is the fines that will accumulate for tour.

Scores on the doors are

Lewis - tour shirt 1 point
James - losing his tie temporarily 1 point
Rodders - no shirt or tie 2 points
Albert - no buttons on shirt 1 point
Tim, - late and no boots 2 points
Nige - losing car keys and ruining everyone’s first hour after game - 1 point
