But, the continued commitment of the players meant that the Angels went into a home friendly against Sidcup 4s with a full selection giving us a bomb squad that Rassie and Borthwick would fight over.

Alas, the best laid plans of mice and men go awry. Cry offs started happening. They happen. We get it. But they are frustrating nonetheless.

Out came the book. Extra pages needed to rewrite the team sheet. Two big changes; hooker Max Mason to 9 & Josh Foley to the wing. No grumbles. Just rugby grit.

Darts had a plan. Win the toss. Face the kick but run uphill from the off. And that we did. A huff and puff first half ended with Darts leading 10-0. There had been 40 minutes of frantic rugby. Up hill. Down hill. Darts should have been further in front. Sidcup may feel aggrieved at not having scored. The Darts line only held by some desperate tackling.

The second half brought a number of changes. Sidcup clearly decided running up the hill wasn’t so bad and struck back. Darts held a slender 10-7 lead. Then the malaise was shook loose. Darts played into the corners to push Sidcup back. The phases started coming together. And it started to show on the score board.
Sidcup hit back, but the damage had been done.

The final score 34-12

Some points to call out.
Josh Foley had a superb game on the wing, far from his favoured back row. Two tries; one from the filthiest kick pass ever witnessed at Bourne Road.
Max Mason stepped into 9 without hesitation and bossed the pack around. Kick passer. 50-22er.
Liam Yorke, U14 coach playing his first senior game in a while was the open side naws you want. Apart from his knock on.
Jack Pearson had a stormer carrying hard all afternoon.
I asked for effort and commitment. I got them in spades. I also got some beautiful rugby from a side that left it all on the pitch.
