Darts entertained another promotion chasing team

Darts entertained another promotion chasing team when Havant came to Bourne Rd and the visitirs started with pace and powerusing their big backs to crash the ball on . After unluckily conceding a lineout when the ball just hit a home player Darts were on the defensive again and from this lineout Havant went through a number of phases to create space for their scrum half who went through to score the opening try. 0-7. A great clearing kick from Joe Scott put play deep into the Havant half and good work saw Darts win the lineout which allowed the home side get to work and after a number of phases forced a penalty which was converted by Jonny. 3-7. Darts were getting into the match and were keeping play in the Havant half but the visiting defence was strong . Havant were very streetwise and were able to continually slow the ball down and when they had the ball keptthe Darts defence on their toes with the scrum half continually sniping at the fringes. A clearance kick after running the ball out of defence put play back into the Havant half but a couple of missed tackles saw the strong and fast winger score from 45 metres. 3-12. Darts continued to defend strongly and tackle the big Havant forwards but again the pressure told and Darts conceded a penalty which was converted to take the score to 3-15. Darts as usual never give up and were certainly in the game with large periods of ball keeping good control through the phases pinning Havant inside their 22. This pressure told and it was Sam Allen who went over to score , Jonny convrerted to take the score to 10-15. Darts Achilles Heal has been just after scoring and this was the case again when from the kick off strong running saw a hole appear which was gratefully taken to take the score to 10-22 at half time.
It was still all to play for and from the kick off which was excellently taken by the mobile strong running hooker Darts were defending and when a high kick was well taken by Jonny a break was on but stopped when a tap tackle took him down. In an effort to keep the ball alive a poor offload went loose and from this Havant took advantage of cheap ball and scoredunder the posts. 10-29. Darts hit back with a great lineout steal and put rel pressure on the Havant dfence which was standing up to the task with good organisation and hard tackling. Darts were still having a lot of possession and moving play deep into to the opposition half in a desperate attempt to get on the scoreboard again but when 5 metres from the try line the ball was ripped out by Havant and then three passes saw the ball in the wingers hand and he ran 80 metres to score to increase the score to 10-36. Darts still kept on trying to break the Havant defence despite not having much luck with the bounce of the ball and again it was after a long period of pressure they conceded a penalty. The kick to the corner allowed the bigger Havant pack to use the driving maul and score the final try to take the score to 10-43.
A tough day for Darts who had Joe Johnson making his debut at hooker. Every week the team has put in a fantastic effort but a lack of patience when in attacking positions has meant we haven't scored enough points our pressure has deserved and this combined with too many small errors at crucial times has meant the results have not been forthcoming.
Luke Golding was man of the match following a strong performance both in defence and with ball in hand,

taken to take the score to 10-22 at half time.
