Darts final league match of the season

Darts final league match of the season was away at bottom of the table Barking and the weather was perfect for their fast flowing style of play. It was a great start when a wide clearing kick was gathered by Ashley Hadler and he immediately was on his way beating two players before passing inside to Connor who then gave the pass to Joe Scott who glided over under the posts. Jonny converted. 0-7. Darts kept the pressure up and showed their versatility by going through a number of forward phases allowing skipper Si Briggs to score the second try which was again converted by Jonny Regnier. 0-14. Barking were a big side and were using their forwards to great effect building up pressure and pinning the visitors inside their 22. Darts have defended really well this season and were continuing that quality against a determined Barking team. Eventually Darts turned the ball over and a great clearing kick saw play move back deep inside the Barking half . Good patient play from Darts continued putting pressure on the home defence and when Billy Wilson went on a bruising 25 metre charge the ball was quickly moved wide to Joe Scott who drew his man to put Liam Brencher clear to score in the corner. Another conversion from Jonny. 0-21. Barking were having their fair share of the ball and retained it well going through the phases but the Darts defence was extremely well organised with great tackles coming from Ryan Chandler playing at blind side and Luke Golding at No8. and combined with skipper Si Briggs forced another turnover. A quick counterattack saw Jonny put in a reverse kick which was only narrowly missed by Ollie Edwards. Throughout the season despite being a smaller side darts pack has been very competitive at the set piece with Louis Chapman and Alex Vousden very impressive at prop. Billy Wilson converted from centre to hooker this season brought his bulk and ball skills to the game and when they took a strike against the head ity was Liam Brencher who made the break before popping inside to Connor Sutherland who went over under the posts for the bonus point try. Another Jonny conversion. 0-28. Again it was a period of Barking pressure who were certainly giving the league champions a physical encounter pushing darts back into their own half but the defence was outstanding and again it was patince from darts waiting for their opportunity to turn the ball over. A quck chip over the top and a good chase from Ashley Hadler put pressure on the Barking winger. Once the ball was secured it was Liam Brencher who took the ball on before feeding Connor who went over for his second try. Jonny again converted to give a half time score of 0-35.
Darts started the second half brilliantly winning the the ball straight from the restart and then went through numerous phases on the short side before putting Joe Scott in the clear to score again under the posts. Jonny again converted. 0-42. barking were still doing some great work through their forwards but after a long tough season their finishing wasn't as sharp as it could be and Darts were taking advantage of every mistake . After defending deep in their half Darts fly half Jonny intercepted the ball and ran 70 metres to score and then just miss the conversion. 0-47. Darts were making a few changes now bringing on Paddy Clifford in the centre for his debut with his brother Jamie coming on at second row. Darts were now camped inside the Barking half and an inside pass saw Si Briggs go over for his second. Jonny converted. 0-54. A bit of frustration was setting in with the Barking team as they were getting no reward for all their efforts and after a little altercation Paddy and the Barking blind side were sent off for a 10 minute rest with yellow cards . Darts were just continuing to go about their business and when a nice pass into the space was gathered by Luke Golding he went over to score from 25 metres out. Jonny converted again. 0-61. All credit to Barking who despite being well behind continued to show great determination and again their forwards worked really hard to force the ball over the line after numerous phases under the posts for a well deserved score. 7-61. Darts however were not finished and after going through the phases again they drew in the defence and Jonny again kicked well into space for Ashley to go over under the posts. Jonny converts. 7-68. With a final flourish it was Liam Brencher who scored the last try and finish the match. 7-73. All the players performed well in the match but Ryan Chandler was eventually given the Player of the match award.
A great finish to the season for Darts with only one loss and a record 100 league points. The coaches and players have performed brilliantly throughout the season and are looking forward to a well deserved rest before embarking on what will be a tough job in London 1 but the club is excited to have the opportunity to test ourselves at this level.
