Match Report: Dartfordians vs Old Reigatians
A cracking afternoon on the road saw Dartfordians deliver a proper statement performance, coming away with a convincing 52 to 22 win over Old Reigatian in a match full of intent, energy and impressive rugby.
From the opening whistle, Darts set the tone. The forwards established dominance early with powerful carries and a well‑organised catch and drive, creating the perfect platform for the backs to work their magic. Two early tries followed the same pattern: strength up front followed by sharp execution out wide. After the first quarter, Darts led 10 to 0.
The pressure continued to build. A third try arrived midway through the half, extending the advantage to 17 to 0. Old Reigatian responded with a sustained spell of pressure inside the Darts 22 and eventually forced their way over after multiple phases to make it 17 to 5.
Just before half time, Darts secured the bonus‑point try. The conversion pushed the lead to 24 to 5 and the team went into the break firmly in control.
The second half picked up exactly where the first left off. An early score under the posts increased the gap to 31 to 5. Old Reigatian struck back with two further tries, narrowing the margin, but Darts answered with another composed score to stay well clear. From there, the visitors controlled the game with patience and accuracy. A phase‑driven team try added further breathing room, and even when Old Reigatian crossed late, Darts responded once more to finish strongly and secure the 52 to 22 victory.
The Darts Difference
This was a day when the collective effort stood out, but several performances deserved particular recognition. Jarlath Hetherington was named Man of the Match for his composed game management and 20‑point contribution. Around him, Harry Wright impressed with significant metres gained and a disciplined defensive display. Steve Kpaka brought relentless work rate and consistent impact with ball in hand. Joe Rees and Max NL stepped into the side seamlessly and immediately carved up in attack, while Dempsey Chappel added real pace to the contest. Kieran Clarke delivered strong defensive work and powerful carries throughout, and Lloyd Banks contributed heavily with his work rate and ball‑carrying presence. Truthfully, on a performance like this, the entire squad could have been listed for recognition.
A proper team effort built on hard work up front, flair out wide and a group that backed each other all afternoon.
On the road. Job done. COYD
