Darts entertained Channel Ba Baas

Darts entertained Channel Ba Baas who travelled to Bourne Rd with only 8 players but with the home side having 20+ players there was still an opportunity to play a decent match with 14 a side. From the start the home side went on the attack and good passing along the line saw Lizzie G take the ball on but was tackled really well by Innes.Darts were playing well with Emily D taking the ball on well and eventually it was Megan who managed to pounce on the ball and score the opening try. Ewa converted. 7-0. Rhea made a couple of powerful runs but there was some great defence form the Ba Baas full back. Lola , Innes and Millie were making strong runs for the visitors but the home defence was well organised. Ewa continues to run the game well from 10 and fter going through three players with a trademark strong powerful run she score the second try and converted. 14-0. The Ba Baas made good ground into the Darts 22 but great defence kept them out and a clearing kick from Ewa cleared the lines. Tierney continues to improve at prop and her runs from our pod play were backed up by Lizzie F and Emily A. Lara was making her first start since the start of the season and she didn't disappoint with barnstorming runs and great tackles. Darts moved the ball in the backs really well and this allowed Izzy and Anna to take the ball on in space but again it was the visiting full back who stopped a further try. Emily D made a great break from the back of the scrum saw play move 40 metres into the opposition half and great support from Lilly saw her pop the ball to Lizzy M who scored. 19- 0.Both sides were running the ball well and again it was a great tackle which stopped another try. Melissa although not getting much ball was great in defence and made some telling last ditch tackles which kept the visiting scoresheet blank.
Players swapped around in the second half and immediately it was skipper Lola who took advntage of a penalty 5 metres from the line to score and Ewa to convert. 26-0. Holly moved to scrum half for the first time and was immediately in the match giving great service to the backs Lola again made a couple of great breaks supported well by Millie but the defence held firm but a clearing kick was returned by the dangerous Lizzie M but a dropped ball allowed the Ba Baas 10 to make a 50 metre break but unfortunately was injured in the tackle. Anna at full back was taking the ball on well and it was good experience for her, Izzy and Lilly to play out of position. Evie got her hands on the ball and was always making small breaks to get behind the defence and from one of these Lizzie fended off the defenders to score and again Ewa converted. 33-0. Emily Liily and Millie were still making good breaks and Lola scored her second try which was converted by Lilly. 40-0. A turnover from a tackle in their own 22 allowed Nadia to race 60 metres to score the final try a just reward for her play in attack and defence. 47-0.
A really good match with both sets of players putting everything into the match and it was especially pleasing to see how well the Darts girls played for the opposition giving no quarter. Although disappointing for the Ba Baas girls who couldn't get out a full side great credit should be given to those 8 girls who travelled a long way for the match and contributing to a great afternoons rugby.
Innes and Rhea were both injured and hopefully they will be fit for next weeks match.
Everyone contributed to the performance today but it was unaninmously decided that the Player of the Match award should be awarded to Millie who made a major contribution to both teams.
