Match Report: ASHFORD/COBRA U18 Girls vs BASSDARTS U18 Girls - Kent Cup

Reporters: Mark Stephens/Nick Tremain

BASSDARTS booked their place on Kent Finals Day (Sunday 26th April) with an impressive 48–0 victory away to Ashford/Cobra in the Kent U18 Girls Cup semi-final.

Facing the newly formed Ashford/Cobra cluster for the first time this season, the visitors made a fast start and quickly set the tone for the game.

Early pressure forced a turnover deep in opposition territory, and after several quick phases the ball was worked wide for the opening try. The conversion was added to give BASSDARTS an early 7–0 lead.

Momentum stayed firmly with the visitors as aggressive forward play and quick recycling created another opportunity, with a strong break and offload leading to the second try.

The attacking rhythm continued as slick passing across the back line released the winger to finish in the corner, stretching the lead to 17–0.

Ashford/Cobra worked hard to regain territory but were repeatedly met by strong defensive pressure, with turnovers halting several attacking phases. Sustained pressure inside the opposition 22 eventually resulted in another try before a well-worked move from the restart saw a powerful carry finish under the posts, with the conversion added to send BASSDARTS into half-time with a 29–0 advantage.

The second half began in scrappier fashion, but BASSDARTS soon reasserted control. A dominant scrum created a clean break before support runners finished the move for another score.

Shortly afterwards, a midfield break and quick offload led to another converted try as the lead continued to grow.

A number of injuries and stoppages disrupted the flow of the final quarter, but BASSDARTS maintained defensive discipline and continued to create opportunities. The final score came following a flowing move through several phases before the try was finished out wide and the conversion added.

Ashford/Cobra pushed hard in the closing stages, but resolute defence ensured the clean sheet as the final whistle confirmed a convincing 48–0 victory.

The result sends BASSDARTS through to Kent Finals Day on 26th April, where they will compete for the Kent Cup.
