Match Report: Medway U18 Girls vs BASSDarts U18 Girls - Friendly

Reporter Nick Tremain

In wet and windy conditions at Medway RFC, the newly formed BASSDarts U18 Girls — a combined squad of Beckenham, Sidcup, and Dartfordians — played their first-ever fixture together, producing a commanding 53–5 win that marked an exciting beginning to a new chapter in their rugby journey.

A Fast Start in Testing Conditions

Despite the miserable weather, BASSDarts immediately found rhythm and control. From the opening minutes, the visitors established dominance through powerful running, composure in possession, and strong set-piece work. The early momentum led to two quick tries — both the result of confident attacking phases and sharp support play — giving the new squad an ideal start.

Medway fought back bravely, working their way downfield and crossing in the corner to close the gap. Yet, BASSDarts responded in style, maintaining control of territory and possession to extend their lead before halftime. The team’s composure, handling, and communication were particularly impressive given this was their first outing together.

By the break, the visitors held a commanding 32–5 advantage.

Power, Pace, and Control

The second half brought more of the same. From the restart, BASSDarts pushed deep into Medway territory, their organisation at the breakdown and aggression in defence forcing repeated turnovers. Attacks flowed with confidence, and the ball movement across the backline was slick and decisive, leading to several well-crafted tries.

Even when the team temporarily dropped to 13 players, BASSDarts continued to control the tempo of the match. The forwards carried with intent, the defence remained disciplined, and the squad’s all-round cohesion was remarkable for a newly combined team.

When the final whistle blew, the scoreboard read 53–5, capping off a dominant and highly encouraging debut performance.

A Promising Beginning

While the result was emphatic, the true story of the day was how quickly this new team — drawn from three different clubs — gelled both on and off the field. The coaching staff used the match to assess combinations and build chemistry, and the players responded with a display full of energy, structure, and intent.

Medway played their part superbly, competing with spirit and determination throughout. Their attitude reflected the true values of the game, and they were worthy opponents for this historic first match.

Looking Ahead

Competing as BASSDarts, the team now look ahead to their first league fixtures. With a blend of experience and fresh energy from across the three clubs, there’s genuine excitement about what this squad can achieve.

A new name, a new alliance, but the same Dartfordian drive.
Final Score: Medway 5 – 53 BASSDarts
