Darts entertained Medway

Darts entertained Medway with a depleted squad due to County matches and injuries but all the girls who played showed great character and determination against a powerful Medway team. Playing a 14 a side match as Medway had also lost players to County Darts took a little time to settle with players out of position but nevertheless both sides were competing really well at the breakdown. Medway were on top at this stage and they went through some good phases before moving the ball wide to score in the corner and take the lead. 0-5. Medwy kept the pressure on and when two Darts players went down injured the visitors took advantage of the space and slickly moved the ball to the wing and score their second try. 0-10. Darts started to put together some phases with Millie and Emily D in the thick of play taking the game to Medway. Both Elizabeth F and Elizabeth B were strong carrierts as well as tackling really hard and were backed up by Tierney and Emily A who were doing the hard graft in the front row. Good ball was provided for the backs and Lola playing in the centre made a great break and after some decent play it was the impressive Millie who got Darts onto the scoreboard. 5-10. They was a couple of good runs from Thelma in only her second match and Sibo made two or three fantastic tackles to keep Darts on the front foot. It looked like all Darts at this time and they forcd a pen, quick thinking from Tierney saw her take a quick tap but she was held up over the line Rhea making a comeback after a lengthy injury was looking good on the wing making good tackles as well as taking the ball on well and alongside her was Nadia who in her first run out at centre didn't look out of place both in attack and defence. Evie V who had stepped in at sxrum half settled into a good rythmn and was providing Evie T with good ball who was playing well untill she had to leave the field with a knock. Great defence from a promising move from Medway saw Darts turn the ball over and move it wide to Sibo who proceeded to race 50 metres before being well tackled by the visiting defender.
Both sides were suffering from injuries and the numbers on each side were fluctuating but despite this both sides were going hammer and tong at each other playing some great rugby in the hot weather. Play was centred either side of half way with both defences being on top which saw one side then the other working really hard to make a break. Eventually it was a great break from Milie who set the ball up on the opposition 22 and thye ball was moved to Poppy who slickly passed it to Thelma who proceeded to race in powerfiully from 15 metres. 10-10. It was an exciting and competitive match with a lot of talent on show and many of the girls who have not been getting full matches showing their talent. Medway were putting on great pressure but the defence was holding out with all the Darts players giving their all. Having absorbed this pressure it was Evie T who made a great break from inside her own half and showed her pace and power to take play close to the Medway try line and when she was held up it was Emily D who with great support went over to give Darts the lead. 15-10. Darts saw the match out with for a great win.
All the girls were magnificent showing great resilience and team work when things weren't going their way and despite having to play in alien positions showed how far they have developed this season and with many still having two years left in the aquad gave the coaching staff an extremely entertaining performance.
