Darts made their second trip to Alleynians this time in the National Cup

Darts made their second trip to Alleynians this time in the National Cup hoping to move through to the Area semi final as group leaders. It was a great start by the team who were on the front foot from the off pressuring the home try line and Issy went over but a slight knock in the tackle stopped the try. More good work as Emily D held up over the line but from the 5 metre scrum the ball was moved wide and Lizzie M scored. Ewa converted. 0-7. From the kick off Darts defended really well with Innes and Lara tackling everything that was thrown at them and when there was a turnover from Lola the ball was moved to Issy and she drew the defence before passing to Lara who raced 60 metres to score. 0-12. Darts were in control with Tierney, Lola and Megan looking really strong in the scrum backed up by Elizabeth and Karis who were both also making strong runs in the loose. A good break out made ground and despite brave defence the ball went from Lilly to Anna and finally Ewa who scored the third try. 0-17. Continued pressure pushed Alleynians back intoi their half with Lola and Emily D to the for and when Lilly moved the ball wide in the backs slick hands saw Ramat take the ball on befor offloading well to Lizzie to score her second. 0-22. This was the half time score.
Darts mde changes in the second half and Holly who had been looking good at full back was moved to scrum half and adapted rally well giving us extra cover for Lilly who had run the game well in the first half. Good drives from Tierney and Emily A who had come on at prop as well as Rhea saw play move dep inside the 22 and Ewa was held up over the line. From the resulting scrum Emily D picked up at number 8 anf powerfully drove over to score. 0-27. This resulted in Alleynians put together their best period of play using great phase play to push play deep inside the Darts 22 which was rewarded witha good converted try. 7-27. Lizzie G was looking good in defence as well as giving us good go forward ball and with that and good forward play saw Lizzie M score her third try. 7-32. A further strong period of play from Darts with the forwards keeping good control pegged the home team on the back foot and following a great drive from Innes set the ball up for Ewa to score her second try. 7-37. Pressure from Alleynians forced Darts to concede successive penalties which put them on the front foot but good defence from Evie helped to stem the tide and a great counterruck allowd Lola to pick up the ball, drive on before releasing Lara who sprinted 30 metres to score her second. 7-42. Alleynians continued to work really hard and at a scrum onhalf way their scrum half took off on a great mazy run to score the final try of the match. 12-42.
A really good match with Darts playing some great rugby. Although a wide margin in the score it was a tough match with Alleynians dfending really well and making Darts work for every inch of ground. The differnce between the sides was size and clinical finishing but Darts were really pleased with the way they ended the first half of the season looking strong in every area and continue to work really wll as a team.
There were many players who could have won player of the match but for a great all round display in the front row and back row it was decided it would be awarded to Lola.
