Dartfordians U16 Girls showed tremendous character in their National Cup fixture against Dartford Valley, responding to a difficult opening half with four tries and a spirited second-half performance.
Valley were impressive before the break. Quick ball at the ruck, strong support at the breakdown and powerful, forward-driven play allowed them to build pressure through repeated phases. Darts worked hard defensively but struggled to establish field position and rarely threatened Valley’s try line. At half-time, the visitors led 31–0.
The second half showed what this Darts team is made of. Playing with 14 against 15, the girls regrouped, found their voices and began to play with greater confidence. They kept backing one another, committing to the next tackle, the next carry and the next opportunity.
Elizabeth opened Darts’ account, crossing to give the team a much-needed reward for their persistence. That breakthrough brought renewed belief as Darts began to turn possession into sustained attacking pressure.
Gabby crossed next and added the conversion, before Freya and then Gabby again touched down. Having barely threatened Valley’s line in the opening half, Darts scored four tries after the break, outscoring their opponents 22–10.
The turnaround was a team effort. Determined carrying, support for the ball-carrier and hard work at the breakdown helped Darts build momentum. In defence, the girls continued to make tackles and work for one another despite the numerical disadvantage.
Above all, they refused to let the half-time score define their performance. Each try reflected a team growing in confidence, finding its game and drawing strength from one another.
