Knowing that Eton Manor would be a strong side

Knowing that Eton Manor would be a strong side Darts had to start strongly and close down the opposition but again they were slow off the blocks and allowed the strong running vistors to keep us on the back foot . We are a very nice team and gave the oppositin at least 3 soft tries when we allowed them to just take the ball out of our hands. Our crum was working quite well with Anisha, Terri and Jess looking powerful ably backed up by Isabeela and Jemma who was our main lineout jumper. We worked the lineout well with a strong driving maul but the opposition were very smart and exceptionally quick on any loose ball. Despite Madiie, Layla and Jagoda working really har dto try and take the ball at the vistors their defence was very powerful and they were turning the ball over. This made it very hard for our backs to get going and Lacie did well to get the ball away under pressure. Anabelle , Lucy and Scarlett were all working really hard to find space but it wasn't to be. We were looking to get the ball to Kara, who was making her debut, and Gemma but space was not there. Kate at Full Back must have felt like king Canute but she stuck to her task bravely. We suffered a couple of injuries in the first half with Layla and Anabelle having to leave the field and were replaced by Louise and Molly. Despite all their efforts the girls couldn't turn things around and the half ended with us 8 tries down.
We started the second half with Flora coming on at scrum half and Mia onto the wing. Eton Manor started the second half pretty much as they had played in the first and were putting Darts under pressure inside our 22 but there was an obvious change in the way the home team looked showing great determination and repelld many attacks with excellent defence. Mia made an exceptional tackle on one of the bigger Manor players and the team were lifted which allowed them to get onto the front foot attacking the spaces and getting behind the opposition defensive line. Eton Manor did score the first try of the second half but this didn't deter the revitaised Darts team. Great runs from Maddie, Isabella and Scarlett pushd play into the Manor half and the team now started offloading the ball to runners who were crshing through the defenders. It was great defence but equally good attacking. This continued for most of the half and the team had self belief which saw our strong runners finding space and making goofd inroads. The vistors were conceding pens and we used our driving mauls really well and when we were given a penalty 5 metres out Layla tapped the ball and crashed over for a deserved try. Another great period of play worked play out of our half and it looked like another try would come and eventually it was Layla who pounced on loose ball and raced in from 40 metres to score the teams and her second try. Manor hit back and were always a threat and when they had a scrum on halfway their fly half took the ball and switched from left to right and raced through too many tackles to score a great individual try. Darts werent finished and tried valiantly to try and get another score and Kara went very close but it wasnt to be.
The second half performance made up for a poor first half and showed that the girls have great character and determination. Individually there were some good performances but the team work was a little lacking but it was good to see Isabella showing how good she could be with a strong performance.

nds. Our scrum was working quite well with Anisha, Terri and Jess looking string in the fro
