Darts U15's had their first experience

Darts U15's had their first experience of 15 a side rugby on a full size pitch when Channel Ba Bas travelled upto Bourne Rd for a friendly training match. Darts had 20 girls turn up to play with Jess, Lilly, Anisha, Scarlett and Jemma all playing their first game of rugby and another 5 girls coming up from the U13's this season. With the Baas short of players it allowed everyone to get full game time as Darts rotated their girls into the visiting team. The match was played at a fast pace despite the hot weather and all the girls putting into practice all the things they have worked so hard at in training. The scrums were strong with Terri , Anisha and Jess powerful in the front row and although the match started with uncontested scrums they quickly moved to a more competitive match. Megan, Isabella and Molly all played in the second row and were strong in the set piece but were also active around the field and in the loose. We had a back row of Jagoda who led the team at No 8 and captain, Layla moving from the backs to open side flanker and Jemma at blind side . Great tackling and hard running from Jagoda and Layla which gave the team pace and power which would have been increased further with Maddie who because of a misunderstanding could only play for the first session forthe opposition which she did brilliantly. These gave the team some great ball on the front foot which was converted in a number of excellent tries. In the backs we had Louise and Lacie at scrum half who both were excellent at getting the ball away from the breakdowns quickly allowing space for the backs to utilise their speed . Unfortunately Louise had to leave the field with ligament damage to her neck and we wish her a speedy recovery. Anabelle was at Fly half and was a good runner with the ball as well as getting the back line moving. Lucy and Scarlett combined in the centre and Lucy showed all her array of skills in reading the game as well as running with the ball. Scarlett in her first match showed what great potential she has with her powerful running and great handling and she will only improve with more game time. Gemma showed pace and agility on the wing as did Flora and Lilly in her first match improved and gained confidence as the match progressed. Rosie was back doing what she does best tackling everything that the Ba Baas threw at her and Kate was solid at full back as well counterattacking well. The team scored about 9 tries and conceded 7 but this was all about getting bthe girls playing and they did this with great determination , hard work and skill and gave all those on the touchline fantastic entertainment. Thanks to all the girls who travelled up from the coast who were a pleasure to have at the club and contributed to a great and worthwhile afternoon.
