Match Report Written by Gareth Nicholl
The opposition were last season’s county champions and were well drilled and had played many games together.
Our girls were slow to get started but after a while the penny was dropping and they put up a great display of gutsy determination.
Particularly pleasing was the manner in which the girls bonded and stuck at the task. We tried to get all the girls to have as much game time as possible, but the second half was considerably shorter than the first.
Our scrum was superb, the front row had only practiced on a machine before, our second row had never played in the second row before and one was a debutante. At 8 we had a trusted player who added to the magnificent performance. The girls never went backwards they were so powerful that the referee had to remind them that they could only push 1.5 metres.
The back line too was made up of debutantes and some experience. It is fair to say that the Sevenoaks back line were dominant but the heart that our girls showed in keeping them out when under sustained attack was encouraging.
The result does not reflect the whole of the game, however, the girls were getting better and better every minute of experience they were playing.
Most importantly was the spirit of the girls, I am immensely proud of their never say die attitude, they may not have won but they played magnificently given the circumstances. I am confident that they will be a force to reckoned with once they get more game time together.
I have not mentioned any individuals because they all played their part and I reiterate that collectively the coaches and parents were immensely proud of their effort.
