Ashford 10s

Report written by Marc Powell - Head Coach U14 Girls

Dartfordians U14s produced an outstanding all-round performance to be crowned Ashford 10s Cup winners, with the entire squad playing their part in a day that showcased teamwork, resilience and rugby values from start to finish.

While the results on the day were excellent, what stood out most was the way the team worked for one another in every game. Defensively, they were superb. Their organisation, line speed and commitment in the tackle made them incredibly difficult to break down, and time and again they showed the determination to recover, reset and defend as a unit. That collective effort gave the team a platform in every match and set the tone for the whole tournament.

In attack, the squad played with real confidence and maturity. Their running lines were strong throughout the day, with players working hard off the ball to create options and space. The team moved the ball well, spreading their passing intelligently and stretching defences with width and purpose. There was a real understanding developing across the side, with players trusting each other’s positioning and support lines, which allowed them to play some excellent rugby.

A special mention must go to Adesewa, who was playing her first game and was immense throughout the tournament. To come into the side and make such a strong impact was hugely impressive, and her contribution reflected both her quality and the spirit with which the whole team approached the day.

The tournament also provided a strong reminder of the values at the heart of rugby. Credit should go to those Dartfordians players who graciously stepped up to play for Gravesham when needed, ensuring the games could be played in the right spirit. It was a fine example of sportsmanship, generosity and respect, and something the club can be very proud of.

The squad’s character was there for all to see right to the end. Even when it seemed for a moment that the trophy might slip away as the final scores were being added up, the team had already done everything they could on the pitch. When the calculations were complete, Dartfordians were confirmed as worthy winners.

This was an exceptional tournament performance, built not just on talent, but on hard work, trust and togetherness. Strong defence, intelligent attacking play and a commitment to one another were evident throughout, making this a day the players, coaches and supporters can all look back on with enormous pride.
