Report written by Marc Powell - Head coach U14 Girls
Dartfordians U14 Girls produced a powerful and determined performance to defeat TJ’s 41–5 in the Waterfall Cup Final at Bromley Rugby Club, ending two seasons as Plate winners by lifting the Cup against a TJ’s side that had been U14 Cup champions for the previous two seasons.
From the opening whistle Dartfordians showed their intent, with the forwards carrying strongly and repeatedly driving the ball forward, setting a platform for the backs to attack. Their hard work up front paid off early when Maya powered over for the opening try to give Dartfordians a 5–0 lead, before Elizabeth added the conversion for 7–0.
The forward pack continued to dominate the contact area, making ground with direct running and quick recycling. This pressure allowed Maya to cross for her second try to extend the lead to 12–0. Dartfordians’ defence was then tested, but the team showed great resilience, holding TJ’s out with determined tackling and defensive organisation to prevent what looked like certain scores.
With momentum building again, Gaby finished an excellent attacking move, crossing the line and converting to push Dartfordians into a commanding 19–0 lead at half time.
Early in the second half the forwards once again laid the groundwork, carrying strongly and drawing defenders in. Elizabeth added another try to make it 24–0, before TJ’s managed to break through for their only score of the match, narrowing the gap to 24–5.
Dartfordians responded immediately. Maya completed a well-deserved hat-trick, stretching the score to 29–5, and Elizabeth added another conversion to take it to 31–5.
At the heart of Dartfordians’ attack was scrum-half Bessie, whose quick reactions and sharp service around the base of the scrum kept the tempo high. She repeatedly exploited TJ’s scrums with excellent pace and awareness, keeping the pressure on throughout the match.
Strong running from Freya T consistently drove Dartfordians forward, helping maintain territory and momentum in attack.
Late in the game Dartfordians produced one of the standout moments of the final. Lily-May picked up the ball around the halfway line and burst through the TJ’s defence, accelerating clear before sprinting the length to score an outstanding long-range try and extend the lead to 36–5.
Bessie then capped a superb performance by finishing a final attacking move to seal a convincing 41–5 victory.
It was a complete team performance from Dartfordians — powerful forward play, quick service from the scrum, strong running across the team, and resilient defence when it mattered most — to secure a memorable Waterfall Cup win.
