Dave Rapley provided the below about Baz:
It is with a heavy heart that I tell you our dear friend Baz Girling has passed away after a battle with cancer.
For those younger club members who may not be familiar with Baz, he was one of the early shipments of Erithians to join Darts.
He was a regular first team second row in the 70’s alongside such legends as Les Howel and Mick Renno.
A true Dartfordian and despite living in Cambridge, Baz attended as many matches and functions as possible, including our centenary dinner this year.
He was the cornerstone of Easter Tours for over 50 years. A bon viveur, world traveller, race horse owner and musician, it was Baz who originated our club song “We don’t play for adoration” and the club’s legendary routine, culminating with a unique version of “Show me the way to go home”.
Baz was also the instigator and musical director of the never bettered Glen Miller Daffodil Band, leaving many an opposition slack jawed in wonderment at Dart’s originality and musical prowess.
An original Fezzer, we shall miss him terribly.
Thank you and RIP Baz.
With Tony Barrett adding (and providing the photo):
I'm sending you this photo, probably the best one I have of him, illustrating his sense of humour and appropriately wearing his Tammy. He was one of the original Worthies. We will all miss him terribly - an amazing man and a real gent.
R.i.P. Baz....
