Darts entertained Sidcup at Bourne Rd looking to continue their good form so far this season

Darts entertained Sidcup at Bourne Rd looking to continue their good form so far this season. The first half was dominated by Darts, Jamie Clifford excelled in the line out and took 6 of the first 7 Sidcup line outs. the scrum was strong and Sidcup didn't have an answer to it, despite the possession we failed to make it tell predominately because we were forcing the last pass and not playing to our strengths as well as conceding penalties for not releasing the ball in the ruck or the man after the tackle.
Unfortunately we lost Tyler Roberts in the first half with a golf ball of a lump above his left eye, up until then he had been carrying the ball well. Bucko came on with Joe Carey going to hooker and Alex Shea to loose head, the change didn't disrupt the scrum or line out and we continued to control the game. Harry Saunders is a strong runner and scored our only try in the first half, converted by Tom Mothersole who added two penalties to make the score 13-6 at half time.

The players were disappointed with the way they played in the first half and we agreed a game plan for the second half, vary the forward play with pick and go, then keep the ball of the floor using the driving maul, suck in the defence and move the ball wide and get a forward pod running off 9 and 10. The forwards agreed to dominate their opposite number and they went on to execute the game plan well, the second half produced 5 tries one a penalty try from a driving maul off the line out where SIdcup stood off the maul withe their scrum half coming round offside. Two from driving mauls, Harry Saunders continued his good game with another try and Bucko scoring an identical try all round good forward play.
When the ball was moved wide off the line out Tom Peryer showed what a strong runner on the angle he is by breaking two tackles to score.
Tom Mothersole at 10 kicked two penalties and 3 conversions, he had solid game in attack and had to leave the pitch concussed after the Sidcup centre dived on him with the ball well away, resulting in a sin bin. Sidcup battled well in the last 10 minutes to score a try out wide after good Darts defence. Our defence held strong, through good talking, aggression at the breakdown and in the last minutes to deny Sidcup a second try.
Other mentionables, Kai Lewis making his Darts debut was committed in the tackle, Lee Kermott strong runner with the ball in hand, Tom Ball dominated the attacking line out and James Matkins whose organising of the forwards has improved.
The feedback afterwards from the players was positive in the way the executed the game plan, however they felt we should have won by another 20 points.
Steve Garrett playing his first season at senior rugby was man of the match at Prop
