Darts Demons travelled to Warlingham with a much changed team with only six players in the team from the great win over Tunbridge Wells. It was clear from the start that it was going to take a little while for the team to get together and the disjointed start was a blow for the team. Without shape and continuity to our game the home side were able to get decent ball and put together some good moves and before the Demons knew what was happening it was half time and the team seemed to be dead and buried at 31-0 down. A lot needed to change in the second half and it was clear that there was renewed vigour in the team following a good talking from coach Neil Hubble.
It was good to see Craig "Red Setter" Curley back playing for the club after his absence and the urgency spread right across the team with the front row of O'Neill Billy Wilson, playing his first game at Hooker and Joe Cary providing a great platform. This work was backed up by Lanning and Adams providing a steady flow of lineout ball. The fightback began with Veteran Dan Phillips scoring a good try converted by Tom Mothersole. 31-7 The Sweeney's and Tom Ball in the back row were closing down the opposition stopping them getting any platform and the backs were being well fed by tom Mothersole at scrum half who scored the next try which was again converted by himself. 31 -14. Joe Scott and Phillips in the centre were causing problems giving our wings Idris and Emanuel opportunities to put pressure the home side but it was fly half Connor Freeman who went over for the next score again a try converted by Mothersole. 31-21. Things were starting to get quite uncomfortable for Warlingham as the brave young Demons side kept up the momentum and when they forced a penalty try the impossible seemed possible. 31-28. The Demons kept going to the last minute and had a chance to take the match but they just couldn't manage to get the win.
Having given the home side such a big lead was too much of a task to overturn but it was a fantastic effort by this young team which was exemplified by Man of of the Match Idris who despite being the smallest player on the pitch showed great courage, fighting spirit and never gave up.
