Darts entertained Southwark in a friendly

Darts entertained Southwark in a friendly on a fine sunny day hoping to see their backs moving the ball about the park. Southwark started the game well and put the Demons under pressure and had the first chance to score with a penalty which went narrowly wide. Tom Mothersole took the restart and showed what a great boot he has kicking the 22 down to within the visitors 22. The lineout was won against the thrown and the ball moved out to Bradley Roper who went over for the first try. Tom Mothersole converted. 7-0. Southwark came back on the attack and a great break from them saw their centre racing for the line but a brilliant tackle by Harry Wilson saved the day. Darts were defending really well and forced the visitors to concede a succession of penalties and a greart ball saw Kenny Lee go over for the second try also converted by Tom. Great back play by 18 year old Ade Ojigbo who has taken to senior rugby very easily fed the ball to Kenny who linked with Alex Shea. Alex passed to Dan Phillips who beat his man before popping back to Alex who then passed to Kenny who went over for a fine try again converted by Tom. Darts had a number of other try scoring opportunities but either bad passes, dropped balls or wrong decisions kept the score at 21-0 at half time.
17 year old Dan Dixon was making his senior debut and although too young to prop he didn't look out of place at flanker or in the 2nd row. Darts continued to play expansive rugby and were playing well keeping the visitors on the back foot and a great move only stopped Ade scoring when a poor pass stooped the momentum. Ade was not to be denied when following a fine run by Bradley Roper who beat a number of players before popping the ball to Ade who scored under the posts. Tom again converted. 28-0. More good play with the Darts backs in the ascendancy eventually saw a great break by Dan P who fed the ball to James Matkins who scored with the ever reliable Tom Mothersole converting. Even when Darts were defending they looked dangerous and when Tom Mothersole ran the ball out from his own 22 it led to the final try. Tom kicked the ball on and gave chase, unluckily for Southwark the ball bounced wickedly and totally wrong footed the defenders and Tom followed up to score and then convert. 42-0. In both the previous matches against Southwark they have shown great spirit and determination and despite knowing the match was lost they kept fighting and ended the game the stronger side scoring two goo tries to close the gap to 42-12.
Darts had a very young side who apart from Dan Dixon also had 19 year old Cameron Murphy at prop playing his first match of the season following a year travelling as well as 19 year old Dan Dunbar making his debut for the team. A good all round performance from the team who could have scored more than the 6 tries but gave the supporters a lot of entertaining rugby. A lot of good performances but man of the match was Ade Ojigbo for a great all round performance.
