Two Try Tiff & the 100% Club

Sunday saw our first home fixture of the season against a mixed team of Aylesford & OG’s. Hot
weather and a hard pitch geared us up for some fast running rugby and the Darts girls didn’t
disappoint.
Aylesford & OG’s kicked off and pushed us straight back into our own 22 with a huge drop kick. Darts looked a
little rusty and allowed the opposition to gain possession and drive through the middle of our
defence to score the first unconverted try.
Play seemed a little disjointed after the restart with frequent stops in play but Darts seemed to be
gaining the upper hand by dominating the forward battle. We started to kick through the phases
while driving into the opposition defence. Quick ball from the rucks allowed us to spread it to our
backs which resulted in Issy R breaking through to score under the posts. She then decided to
bounce the ball off the crossbar and through for the first converted try! 7-5 to Darts.
From the restart we showed our dominance in the scrums and rucks, stopping Aylesford & OG’s from creating
any turnovers. Forward drives again started paving the way for Darts to push up field. At one point
we drove them back into the 22, shipped the ball out wide and were set for the second try only for a
great tackle by the defence which halted Leia just on the line. Darts deserved to be further in front.
Shortly after this Aylesford & OG’s managed to score a second try, however, again this went unconverted.
They used the ball well in the first half and caused us a few problems but we tend to start slow for
some reason. 7-10 to Aylesford & OG’s.
A strong drive from Ife into the defence caused a huge collision and the game had to be stopped to
check on the players. The commitment shown by both teams was visible from the sidelines.
After play resumed, quick ball out to the backs gave Tiff the chance of a bit of space. Now was the
time to show her pace and she rounded the opposition wing with ease. Aylesford & OG’s covering defence
was tearing across the pitch and it looked like a collision was imminent only for Tiff to move up a
gear and streak away from the despairing tackler to dot down under the posts for a great try. Issy R
again adding the conversion.
Just before half time Aylesford & OG’s managed to break our defence at around the middle of the pitch and a
try looked a certainty. Maia didn’t think so! Chasing the ball carrier down she made a try saving
tackle just within our own 22. This epitomised the Darts girls efforts and ensured we went into the
break ahead with a the half time score of 14-10.
The second half seemed very stop start with some decisions going against Darts for infringements
committed on the pitch and off it! Penalties for pushing too far in the scrum, clearing out a ruck and
Gavin to name just a few.
Two glimpses of brilliance stood out though, firstly with Chloe V and one of her numerous runs
weaving through the opposition to dot down under the posts. This was again converted by Issy R.
Secondly, Tiff making what is now a trademark run past the winger and cover defence, bursting
through one final tackle to score her second of the match and put the game to bed. With Issy R off
the pitch, Kasey stepped up to slot the last conversion of the match.
100% kicking success from both Issy & Kasey, 100% effort from all players and 100% season record
for the mighty U14’s with 2 wins from 2.
A few special mentions…firstly a welcome back to Ruby who was thrown in at the deep end with
some game time. It’s great to have you back and look forward to seeing you at training.
A couple of victorious debuts for Molly Rendell and Imy Smith. We really are building up a
formidable squad!

And finally a thank you to the supporters that gave their all again on the sidelines and clapped the
girls off the pitch at full time.
